Drawing in a journal and logging entries of my daily commute by bus, bike and BART from Oakland to San Francisco and back for a year, I became more aware of what was going on around me, experiencing instead of trying to block out. My journal drawings and notes became the source material for artist's books and prints. The carousel format creates a stage set for each day of the work week. Each of the five vignettes frame a view through a bus window. The complex scenes suggest the patterns of people moving through the city. A selection from my diary for each day of the week is letterpress printed on each window layer. As each section is opened up Monday through Friday it keeps on going around again and again, a moveable book about movement. The colophon is handset type on a checkout card, reflecting the library job I travel to.
